The funeral plans for the late highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, better known by his stage as Daddy Lumba, have been challenged by his closest relatives.

According to the direct family, which includes Lumba’s first (legal) wife Akosua Serwah Fosuh and their kids, the funeral plans had been made without authorization from them.

The direct family, represented by Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh, called the public disclosure of the musician’s burial arrangements “deeply distressing” in a press release released on Thursday, October 9, 2025, stating that social media was the first source of the information.

They contended that by scheduling the burial for December 6, 2025, without first informing the deceased’s immediate family, Abusuapanyin Kofi Wusu and a purported funeral committee had “acted in their own interests.” The action, according to the statement, shown “a complete lack of respect” for Mrs. Fosuh, who is still grieving for her husband and planning to attend the funeral in Ghana.

According to the announcement, there has been “a continuous and deliberate effort to marginalise” Daddy Lumba’s legal wife in funeral discussions ever since his death in Accra on July 26, 2025. The reason of death is still being investigated, the family added.

They reminded the public that bigamy is severely forbidden by German law and that the late musician was officially married to Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh on December 23, 2004, in Bornheim, Germany. The family emphasized that any second marriage in such a situation is “legally void,” citing Section 1306 of the German Civil Code (Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch), which states that “a marriage may not be entered into if one of the persons is already married.”

In order to prevent any funeral or burial activities “until proper dialogue and consensus are achieved,” the family stated they had launched legal action.

“To all Lumba fans and music lovers across the world we deeply appreciate your love, loyalty, and patience during this difficult time,” the statement read. “We kindly ask you to disregard any unofficial announcements regarding funeral arrangements.”

In accordance with his legacy and the love he shared with millions of people through his songs, it also stated that the late musician will eventually receive a “respectful and dignified farewell.”

One of Ghana’s most well-known highlife legends, Daddy Lumba, died in July 2025 at the age of 60. Throughout his four-decade career, he created over 30 albums, including timeless hits like Aben Wo Ha, Theresa Abebrese, Yentie Obiaa, Menya Mpo, and Woho Kyere. He is renowned for his unparalleled craftsmanship. His music is still a mainstay in Ghanaian homes and continues to inspire upcoming musicians.
