Attorney General Godfred Dame once told Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the continuing Ambulance case, that President Akufo-Addo and former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta were pressuring him to bring charges against Ato Forson.
This was revealed in a fresh application that Richard Jakpa submitted in an effort to get the accusations against him dropped.
Last week, during his cross-examination, Jakpa revealed that the Attorney General had been contacting him irregularly to bring charges against Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader.
Currently the Minority Leader and former Deputy Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson is on trial for allegedly having a hand in Ghana’s purchase of faulty ambulances.
The public debate sparked by this case has prompted some to demand the Attorney General’s resignation.
“Jakpa further avers that Godfred Dame has told him that the reason for his inclusion in the prosecution is to mask the real intention behind the whole trial.
“And that, he instituted the instant action, because the President of the Republic and then Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, were mounting pressure on him to persecute the then ranking Member for Finance and now Minority Leader, Hon. Ato Forson.”
Jakpa’s legal team has filed a plea in court asking for the proceedings to be put on hold or, in the alternative, for the allegations against him to be dismissed.
