President of the republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has asked the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, to start formal engagements with the International Monetary Fund, for a monetary programme.
A letter signed via way of means of the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, and dated July 1st, 2022 shows that there had already been a communique among the IMF boss, Kristalina Georgieva and President Akufo-Addo. conveying government’s choice to have interaction the Fund.
“The President of the Republic, Nana Add Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has approved the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to begin formal engagements with the International Monetary Fund to guide a monetary programme Cabinet at an assembly on June 30th, 2022, supported government’s choice to pursue a monetary programme from the Fund.
“The engagement with the IMF will seek to provide balance of payment support as part of a broader effort to quicken Ghana’s build back in the face of challenges induced by the Covid-19 pandemic and, recently, the Russia Ukraine crises.” The statement added.
