New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidates have pledged to “maintain a healthy but competitive campaign atmosphere” with their respective teams, according to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“In a significant show of solidarity,” they also expressed their “commitment and that of their supporters, to rally behind the eventual winner and uphold the unity of the party after the primaries”.
The former president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s spokesperson, Fatimatu Abubakar, issued a statement revealing this.
To determine who would lead the former ruling party into the 2028 presidential elections, the NPP will hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.
The candidates are Ing Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong (MP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum (MP), and Ken Ohene Agyapong.
The five met for breakfast at the private home of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Nima, Accra, today, October 21, 2025.

The former president called the meeting, which was intended “to foster a spirit of camaraderie and unity ahead of the party’s presidential primaries,” according to a statement released by Mr. Akufo-Addo’s headquarters.
The statement highlighted “the critical importance of a cohesive party for the 2028 general elections,”.

When former President Akufo-Addo spoke, he expressed his profound gratitude to the aspirants for taking time out of their busy campaign schedules to break bread with him.
He stated that their presence was a testament to their shared commitment to the collective good and future prospects of the NPP.
The former president reminded the gathering that he had worked closely with each aspirant and held them in high esteem.
According to him, their candidacies were founded on their qualifications and noteworthy services to the country and the party.
He urged them to focus on delivering their ideas to the party delegates and run their campaigns in a solid, issue-based manner.
The unity of the NPP, the legitimacy of the process, and the pursuit of a properly energized and rallied party that is ready to win the 2028 elections were the main priorities of former President Akufo-Addo.
He expressed gratitude to the candidates for their constructive participation and asked the party leadership to make sure the process is fair and credible in order to promote party unity following their presidential primaries.
