On February 21, President Akufo-Addo met with the Parliamentary members of the NPP at the Jubilee House.

The purpose of the meeting, according to reports, is to settle the mounting conflict among caucus members regarding the planned rearrangement of their side of the front bench in Parliament.

According to certain reports, there is disagreement within the caucus. While some members believe that the current leadership should be retained, others believe that a change in leadership is necessary.

Opponents of the change contend that Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the majority leader, will not run for office again in 2025. Therefore, in order to enable a more seamless transition in the upcoming government, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, his deputy, ought to take over.

Recall that on February 20, a group of NPP MPs led by First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei-Owusu issued a warning, stating that they would not tolerate a leadership change.

He argued that they are happy with the way Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s current leadership is performing.

Thus, it is anticipated that the meeting will decide on a course of action.
