Professor Peter Twumasi, the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has been relieved of his duties.

He will be replaced in an acting capacity by Dodzie Numekevor until a formal appointment is made public.

Mr. Numekevor has 14 days to accept the appointment, which was signed on February 26, 2024, by Secretary to the President Nana Bediatuo Asante.

He begged for forgiveness when he was called to the Jubilee House to respond to inquiries on a wide range of subject matters.

His dismissal was announced in a board communiqué approximately two weeks ago, suggesting that he was not successful in persuading the appointing authority to be retained.

On December 10, 2018, Prof. Twumasi was named Director General of the Authority, succeeding Robert Sarfo Mensah, who had resigned due to his alleged involvement in the “number 12” incident, as reported by Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Tiger EyePI.

Salamatu Alhassan, the head of the Northern Regional NSA, Alexander Tiiku, the chief of the Central Regional NSA, Emmanuel Appiah, the director of Ashanti Regional NSA, and Daniel Sarpei, the head of Volta Regional NSA, have all been moved to the head office in Accra.

Professor Peter Twumasi, the director general of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has been unsuccessful in his attempt to run for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

In the NPP Primary in Ahafo Ano South West constituency, Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah emerged victorious with a landslide, and the NSA chief was decisively defeated.

In the contest, Mensah Dapaah received 357 votes, compared to 84 for Lawyer Kwasi Kwakye Sebeh and 48 for Adwoa Adutwumwaa.

But with just 7 votes, Professor Twumasi’s attempt to represent the NPP was unsuccessful, and he was unable to receive ten percent of the vote.
