John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a prospective flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has given GHS100,000.00 to traders whose goods were destroyed in the recent fire at the Kejetia Market.
Mr. Kyerematen expressed grief when touring the market arena today, Friday, March 24, 2023, to see the extent of the damage.
Mr. Kyerematen and his crew inspected all of the burned-out areas of the market in company with the Kejetia Market Company Limited’s security directors and the Fire Service Commander.
Speaking to the crowd that had gathered in the arena as well as the market queens and traders, Mr. Kyerematen pledged to work with the government to see that the recommendations in the study on the fire breakout were carried out.
“I will liaise with government authorities as they investigate the cause of the fire and ask that they implement remedial measures swiftly to forestall the recurrence of such a tragedy”, the NPP candidate for flagbearer said.
Mr. Kyerematen urged the merchants to maintain faith in the government and postpone thinking about returning to the burned area until they had received the investigation’s result.
He said that after a fire, an investigation was necessary.
Mr. Kyerematen urged the vendors to carry out their operations in compliance with the market’s established rules.
This is where you make your living from your trade operations, so we shouldn’t let what happened here to happen again, Mr. Kyerematen remarked.
Market Queen spokeswoman Nana Sakina accepted the monetary donation on behalf of the victims and thanked the NPP flagbearer candidate for the thoughtfulness.
Nana Sakina thought it was rather encouraging that Mr. Kyerematen had cut short his tour of the nation to sympathize with them and make a financial contribution after visiting them recently to learn about their struggles, particularly those who ran their businesses at the race course market.
“You’ve proved that you are kind and compassionate, and the fact that you interrupted your cross-country trip to come see us when we needed you most proves that you are a decent man. We ask God to grant you success as you work to lead the NPP and Ghana.
