Alan Kyerematen, the former Trade Minister, is the only viable contender among the 10 would-be presidential candidates of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to Carlos Ahenkorah, MP for Tema West.
The key player on the Alan campaign team claimed that the former trade minister stands out in terms of expertise and ideas to make sure the party “breaks the 8”.
In an interview with Ahenkorah on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (25 August), the day before the NPP special electoral college election, she said that only Alan has proposed measures that have the potential to revive Ghana’s economy.
The former deputy trade minister added, “You have someone like Alan who has this plan to support the economy and ensure that the nosedive will stop by ensuring that we produce import substitute here, so that our import burden becomes less and also export more.”
He has proposed what we refer to as’strategic anchor industries,’ or new growth poles, to underpin Ghana’s economy in addition to the cocoa, timber, and gold that we have traditionally relied on.
Tema MP stated “If Alan is put in one silo and you put all the others in another silo to just come out with the good deeds out of these people, you won’t go too far to realise that there is only one person that you can market, as far as the economy is concerned among the 10”.
