Prof. Amin Alhassan, the Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), has disputed statements made by Mustapha Ussif, the Minister of Sports, concerning a $3 million payment given to the national broadcaster for covering the African Games.
Professor Alhassan emphasized that, in contrast to the Minister’s stated amount, GBC really got $105,000.
Professor Alhassan disclosed this information in reaction to Mr. Ussif’s comments during a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting, in which the Sports Minister claimed that GBC had received $3 million for its coverage of the games.
Prof. Alhassan expressed amazement at the allegation, pointing out that GBC was only consulted about covering the event one month before to its actual date.
“Contrary to the $3 million figure mentioned by the Sports Minister, GBC only received $105,000 for the African Games coverage,” Prof. Alhassan stated.
He stressed the short time frame in which GBC was involved, highlighting the difference between the minister’s claimed amount and the real payment.
