Bereaved sister of the late Ghanaian prime minister Kofi Abrefa Busia, the former first vice chairperson of the New Patriotic Party, passed away. It is reported that, following a brief illness, Madam Ama Busia, a member of the NPP Council of Elders, passed away today, Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

In a statement to Asaase News, Ama Busia’s son Dr. Obeng Busia confirmed his mother’s passing. His mother, who was 87 years old, passed away quietly in her hospital bed at the Nyaho Medical Centre in the early hours of Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

Ama Busia is a prominent figure in the ruling New Patriotic Party. Madam Busia, who passed away today, December 12, still has a strong, attractive appearance for her age of 87.

She is well-known for her political protests and criticisms of the Acheampong administration. She was officially arrested seven times as a result of this. She spent ninety days in custody after her seventh arrest.

Ama Busia lost her mother at age 13 and their father when she was 6 years old. Her life was difficult before she found success in school. The current New Patriotic Party, or NPP, was founded when Dombo formed the Northern People’s Party and later teamed up with Danquah and Busia.

Ama Busia joined the group of founding members during that period and made the PNDC government nervous. Ama Busia joined the Council of State after John Agyekum Kufuor’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) took power in 2000.

She previously held the first and third national vice chairperson positions in the New Patriotic Party (NPP). She is a brilliant political figure and a devoted NPP member.

Wenchi Methodist School and Methodist Middle Girls’ School in Kumasi served as Ama Busia’s primary schools. At the Komenda Training College, she received her teaching training.

She and her brother, Kofi Abrefa Busia, went into exile in London in 1959, where she attended Regent Street Polytechnic to study institutional management and catering.
