Results from the by-election held in the Ejisu Constituency of the Ashanti on Tuesday 30th day of April, 2024, present political commentators/analysts with divergent logical deductions.
Whilst some conclude the marginal win by the NPP candidate, Mr Kwabena Boateng (Esq.), is a ‘supposed’ reflection of a depleting popularity of the NPP in her backyard, the Ashanti Region, others are of the strong conviction that the collective desire of the party suppresses the combined strength of any obstacle in its way, irrespective of how formidable such may be within the political space in the region.
Much as I may agree with both schools of thought, I may be inclined to the latter. I, however, see one permeating beam which looks more interesting inching closer to the 2024 general elections. And that, to me, is *The natural Instincts in man that appreciates a good work done for him*
Practically, one could notice there exists a straight win for the New Patriotic Party led government as the people showed utmost contentment with the rate of development of the road infrastructure within the Constituency by the current NPP-led administrations
What became the bone of contention, however, was whether the reward (in the form of votes/representation in parliament) for the massive road infrastructure projects must go to the ‘Messenger’ Owusu Aduomi, or the Government that sent the messenger, the NPP-led government which had presented a different candidate, Mr Kwabena Boateng (Esq) and has thus branded its prodigal son, Mr Owusu Aduomi, a traitor.
Here, any serious analyst would come up with two scenarios: first, there is, potentially, a huge number of voters who appreciate the work done so far within the Constituency. Second, there also exists quite a huge pool of voters who are also of the strong view that Government’s developmental projects within their localities are the result of the effort of an individual: MP, Minister, CEO, DCE, or any other government appointee leading the charge at the period of implementation.
One can clearly conclude that the 2024 general elections cannot be won by merely playing on the keyboard of people’s emotions, but on the comparative personal experiences of the individuals within their localities and their personal welfare.
The earlier we learnt, the better it would be for us.
Shalom!
