The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has come across a flippant statement from the leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) decrying remarks made by Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for the Abetifi Constituency and Minister of Food and Agriculture, that the NDC describes as treasonous.

Acheampong was speaking to some party supporters in the Eastern Region.

The NPP views the NDC’s statement as being not only ill-founded, hypocritical, illogical, and baseless, but also lacking in contextual substance for the consumption of the astute Ghanaians who are aware of the main opposition party’s strategy of purposefully giving a diabolical and cunning slant to otherwise innocent comments like the Member of Parliament’s remarks in order to further their own self-serving political interests.

“Since the NDC pretends not to appreciate and logically decode Bryan’s message, we would once again educate them, just as we have done on many occasions. For the avoidance of doubt. Hon Bryan Acheampong, was responding to the NDC’s perpetual flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, who had on many occasions described the 2024 general elections as one of “do or die” for the NDC. It is, in fact, a no secret that the NDC has always resorted to violence and intimidation against their opponents during the conduct of general elections, and this was summed up by their 2024 presumptive presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama,” a statement signed by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong stated.

“From the foregoing, if anybody has to be arrested by the Police for treasonable comments, then certainly it is John Dramani Mahama for his continuous ‘Do or die for the NDC’ in reference to the 2024 general elections, and Asidedu Nketiah for his brazen proclamation that members of the NDC are willing to sacrifice their lives to win the 2024 elections,” he added.

John Mahama reportedly asserted vehemently that “NDC has revolutionary roots and that nobody can beat us [NDC] in unleashing violence” according to the NPP.

He continued by saying that other prominent NDC members, including Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the Party’s National Chairman, had expressed similar threats and animosity.

The NPP views the NDC’s attack on Bryan Acheampong as not only unjustified but also attention-seeking and an ineffective attempt to use emotional blackmail to win Ghanaians’ support.
