In connection with accusations of war crimes surrounding the forcible deportation of children from Ukraine to Russia, the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Friday issued an arrest order for Russian President Vladimir Putin and another Russian official.
An international campaign to hold the Russian president and the Russian Federation responsible for horrors starting with the full-scale invasion in February 2022 is believed to include the arrest order as one of the first accusations against Putin for war crimes in Ukraine.
Additionally, a warrant for Maria Alekseyevna Lvova- Belova’s arrest was issued. According to the International Criminal Court, she “bears individual criminal responsibility” for the forcible deportation of Ukrainian children from Russian-occupied land to Russia.
According to the allegations, the crimes were done in Ukrainian-occupied land at least as of February 24, 2022.
According to article 25(3)(a) of the Rome Statute, there is reason to believe that Mr. Putin is personally liable for the crimes listed above due to I having committed the acts directly, jointly with others, and/or through others, and (ii) failing to properly exercise control over civilian and military subordinates who committed the acts or permitted their commission and who were under his effective authority and control.
According to articles 8(2)(a)(vii) and 8(2)(b)(viii) of the Rome Statute, Ms. Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova, who was born on October 25, 1984, and serves as the Russian Federation’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights, is accused of committing the war crimes of wrongful deportation of population (children) and wrongful transfer of population (children) from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.
According to the allegations, the crimes were done in Ukrainian-occupied land at least as of February 24, 2022.
According to article 25(3)(a) of the Rome Statute, there are good reasons to think that Ms. Lvova-Belova is personally liable for the offenses listed above, whether she did them alone, jointly with others, or indirectly through others.
