The Ashanti Chief of Kwapra Suame Municipality, Nana Baffour Adugyemfuo Kumani, has finally been destooled by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom.
During a meeting of the Asantemen Traditional Council on Monday, December 11, 2023, in the Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene issued an order for Baffour Adugyemfuo Kumani’s destoolment.
After threatening to end Baffour Adugyemfuo Kumani’s reign on charges of engaging in double-selling of lands and breaking the Great Ashanti Oath (Ntamkese) against him on a land under development for estate project that he falsely took from a lady he first sold to and later sold to a different person without returning the money he had taken from the lady, the Otumfuo summoned Kwaprahene in October.
“Kwaprahene knows why I’m looking for him. He knows I am looking for him because of the land issues. That’s why he is dodging me with the excuse of sickness. And he thinks he is smarter than me,” the Asantehene declared.
He stressed, “I won’t take any excuse from him. When he was young, he sold my land without bringing me my money. I forgave him, and you see the issue has returned to me,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II recalled.
The Asantehene also took a swipe at the kingmakers of Kwapra for failing to give Baffour Adugyemfuo Kumani wise counsel.
“And you to the elders, I have always cautioned you against his excesses and that you should caution him to change his ways,” he reprimanded.
According to reports, Baffour Adugyemfuo Kumani failed to honour Asantehene’s invitation.
Otumfuo, ordering the rites of Kwaprahene’s removal, also ordered the destooling of several sub-chiefs, citing their incapacity to provide the chief with sage advice.
In addition, the Asantehene commanded anyone in Kwapra who had land disputes to present their cases before him, promising to settle them as quickly as possible.
Next year, Asante Odwura festival is anticipated to be celebrated by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, prior to his 25th anniversary on the Asanteman Golden stool.
Otumfuo is expected to settle all unresolved Chieftaincy disputes prior to the celebration of the “clean” festival, which is associated with other rituals. Chiefs who exhibit dubious attitudes will be destooled prior to the celebration of the crucial Asante festival.
