Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has given the Asante Mampong Traditional Council forty days to make all the preparations required for the burial of Daasebre Osei Bonsu, the late caretaker of the Silver Stool.
The Asantehene emphasized the importance of burying the respected traditional leader’s remains as soon as possible.
Otumfuo directed that the necessary arrangements be made for the One-Week observance on May 12 and the funeral ceremonies three weeks later during a meeting of the Asanteman Council on Monday, May 5, 2025.
“I do not wish for this process to be protracted, and I want everything to be concluded within 40 days. The One-Week celebration must be convened next Monday. In three weeks, I expect to see him laid to rest. Subsequently, we shall seek a successor,” Asantehene said.
In a heartfelt homage, the Asantehene highlighted the noble and selfless role that Mamponghene Boahen Anantuo played in granting the paramountcy its position as the second in command of the Asante Kingdom.
He pointed out that this prerogative enabled him to take on duties when the Golden Stool’s occupant was not there.
“This event affects the entirety of Asanteman. Until I have interred him, I shall refrain from convening an Asanteman Council meeting,” he noted.
Otumfuo also ordered the Asante Mampong Council’s traditional leaders to work in unison with the Queen to carry out the required preparations.
“The elders of Mampong must work in concert with the Queen to ensure all preparations are made. She is the caretaker, and you are to assist her. Once all arrangements are finalised, you are to come and inform me,” he added.
