The Offinsohene elect is 68-year-old royal Nana Amoako Poku of the Offinso Ahyirem Royal Family. On Monday, December 18, 2023, at a meeting of the Asanteman Council in Kumasi, his name was mentioned.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, presided at the final Asanteman Council meeting of 2023. The Offinso Queen mother did not show up for the meeting when the Offinso unoccupied stool case was called.

In accordance with Asante custom, the Asantehene questioned the Kwakwaboa Abusuapanyin, Opanyin Yaw Nkrumah Adusah about the condition of the open stool and the procedure the family uses to select a royal to occupy it while the Queen mother was away.

Newsmen were informed by Kwame Asare Boadu, who was present at the meeting, that the family was nominating Nana Amoako Poku by the Kwakwaboa Abusuapanyin, Opanyin Yaw Nkrumah Adusah, who then proceeded to present Nana Amoako Poku to the Asantehene and the gathering as the newly elected Offinsohene amid celebration.

The Queen Mother of Offinso had previously suggested Dr. Kofi Kodua Sarpong for the open post, but the Asantehene had rejected him. Dr. Kofi Kodua Sarpong was not present, and the few of his followers who were there discreetly filed away.

This came about as a result of the Offinso Queen Mother’s third unsuccessful attempt to name a suitable member of the Offinso Royal Family to fill the stool.

As per Asante custom, the Abusuapanyin took on the duty of proposing a suitable royal candidate for the stool, after conferring with the royal family.

Otumfuo Kekabuosohene, timber merchant, and well-known custodian of Asante history are Nana Amoako Poku.

When Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, previously gave the Offinso Queen mother the chance to suggest someone for the open stool, she did so for Dr. Kofi Kodua Sarpong, a former CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
