Francis Asenso Boakye, a member of parliament for the Bantama Constituency, has dedicated a brand-new Astroturf Pitch to the memory of Daniel Okyem Aboagye, a deceased predecessor.
It happens the day after Mr. Daniel Okyem Aboagye passed away at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital following a brief illness.
The facility is the fourth pitch to be built in the district under the current administration and under Francis Asenso-Boakye, the current member of parliament and minister of works and housing.
The deceased MP was expelled from parliament as a result of a heated dispute in the NPP parliamentary primaries in 2020 between Francis Asenso Boakye and Daniel Okyem Aboagye.
Nevertheless, the late Okyem Aboagye and the minister maintained their friendly friendship after the primaries, which had been established during their formative years.
He characterized the late Daniel Okyem Aboagye as an intelligent, diligent worker who took his job seriously.
”The late Okyem Aboagye was my four-year interval senior at the Secondary School, we went to the University and we both lived in America. We had a great relationship as brothers and friends. His demise is a big blow to the New Patriotic Party”, Mr. Asenso-Boakye added.
He pledged that he would be available to help the late Daniel Okyem Aboagye’s family while they made preparations for his funeral.
The former deputy chief of staff revealed that he is advocating for the sports facilities to assist discover and develop more sports talent in the constituency while briefly discussing the AstroTurf Pitch that was outdoored at Ohwim in the Bantama Constituency.
”Bantama has already been a brooding place for hatching big football personalities who have made it to the international level”, he stressed.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and the Ohwim leadership have been tasked by Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye to see to the facility’s maintenance. The money collected from users outside the Ohwim/Amanfrom area would be used for the pitch’s maintenance, he said, adding that a committee has been established to oversee utilization of the field.
Naming the pitch, Hon. Asenso-Boakye stated ”we all know how painful the demise of our immediate past MP, the late Hon. Okyem Aboagye has been to all of us. I have consulted leadership of the NPP in Bantama, the KMA and Traditional authorities of this area, and we have all come to consensus that we name this AstroTurf Pitch after Hon. Okyem Aboagye, as a means of honouring him for his great works. So this pitch is forever called the Okyem Aboagye AstroTurf Pitch”
Inaugurating the Okyem Aboagye AstroTurf Pitch alongside his colleague, Sports Minister and Yagaba Kubore MP Hon. Mustapha Yusif claimed that the Nana Akufo-Addo administration had outperformed all other post-independence governments in terms of providing sports infrastructure.
He listed the completion of 151 AstroTurf Pitches, the construction of 10 Youth Resource Centers with a capacity of 5000 spectators, the renovation of important sports arenas, the provision of structures for indoor competitions, and other actions as examples of the NPP government’s successful efforts to advance sports in the nation.
He praised Francis Asenso-Boakye, MP for Bantama, for his outstanding work, which is giving his constituents a great deal of relief and delight.
Samuel Payne, the mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Chiefs, and representatives from the Ghana Gas Company Ltd. and the New Patriotic Party all took turns making brief remarks in which they emphasized the importance of maintaining the pitch properly.
