Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, visited the Sofoline Garages in Kumasi after a destructive fire incident that damaged numerous vehicles and commercial buildings.
Together with the Kwadaso Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Eric Asibey, and other officials, the Regional Minister visited the impacted area to evaluate the level of damage and engage with those affected by the incident.
The blaze that erupted on Sunday, January 25, destroyed several vehicles and workshops, leaving many mechanics, vendors, and craftsmen assessing their losses and grappling with the effect on their sources of income.
Dr. Amoakohene conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the government, promising that actions would be implemented to aid their recovery.

He highlighted the government’s dedication to collaborating with appropriate agencies to assist victims in quickly rebuilding and restoring their businesses.
The Regional Minister instructed the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), along with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), to carry out a comprehensive inquiry into the fire’s origin to avoid similar incidents in the future.

He praised GNFS, the security forces, and other emergency responders for their quick response, which contained the fire and stopped it from spreading further.
The Sofoline fire incident raises heightened worries regarding fire safety in commercial areas, prompting stakeholders to advocate for enhanced preventive strategies and emergency readiness throughout the region.
After visiting the victims of the inferno this is what the minister wrote on his Facebook wall:
Together with REGSEC, I visited the Sofoline fire incident site to assess the damage, sympathize with victims, and offer support on behalf of H.E. the President John Dramani Mahama.
I commend the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service, and all security agencies for their swift response, and I thank the Kwadaso MCE, Hon. Eric Asibey, for his leadership.
Preliminary reports indicate that 34 vehicles and 24 shops were affected. NADMO is currently assessing the full extent of the losses.
I urge everyone to take fire safety seriously by avoiding electrical overload, switching off appliances when not in use, handling gas safely, and reporting faulty wiring promptly.
