In the Ashanti Region, the vetting process for National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidates has commenced.

On this day, Monday, April 3, 2023, the vetting committee is supposed to review 10 of the 36 constituencies.

The constituencies of Akrofrom, Ejisu, Obuasi East, Obuasi West, Bekwai, Asante Akim North, New Edubiase, Manso Nkwanta, Bosomtwe, and Odotobri are on the minds of the candidates who will be appearing before the vetting committee today.

Today’s candidates for the legislature included Joseph Asuman of Akrofrom, Samuel Aboagye of Obuasi East, and Samuel Prempeh Junior of Bekwai.

Mr. Samuel Prempeh Junior, a candidate for the Bekwai seat in parliament, declared that his vetting was successful.

It continued with great success. It all came down to the job I did on the ground, how I handled the role when I got it, and how well it went, he said.

He also discussed his motivation for running for the House of Parliament.

He stated, “My objective is to create employment for the youth of the Bekwai constituency; for the youth to get more jobs to do because the youth of the Bekwai constituency lack jobs and infrastructure.”

Samuel Aboagye, the candidate for the Obuasi East seat in parliament, outlined his plans for the area.

“I am a stakeholder in the growth of Obuasi as an indigene and as someone who has lived, worked, and owned properties and companies there. I believe I have a lot to offer the lovely people of Obuasi East because of my exposure to and experience in a foreign country.

“As things stand, our political leadership is missing. I’m giving the decent people of Obuasi the direction we need because we lack it, Mr. Aboagye said.

He expressed his regret about the dearth of educational resources in the Obuasi East Constituency.

We don’t currently have a university. There isn’t a college here that trains nurses. In Obuasi, there isn’t a training college.

That we lack such facilities to meet the requirements of our people in Obuasi East is extremely shameful, he remarked.

He pointed out that these amenities will give local residents possibilities.
