After the Council of State regional elections in Kumasi were violently disrupted, DCOP Frank Abrokwa, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, was relieved of his duties.

According to sources inside the Ghana Police Service, his dismissal is effective immediately.

After a bunch of thugs attacked the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and disrupted the election process, mayhem broke out, leading to the decision. Because of the increased tensions caused by the disturbances, security personnel had to step in.

As a result, the Ghana Police Service has started looking for the people who are in charge.

In order to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, law enforcement officers are presently examining video evidence from the location.

DCOP Abrokwa’s removal comes after worries about how law enforcement handled the matter, even though authorities have not publicly acknowledged if his dismissal is directly related to the security lapses during the elections.

The event has prompted concerns about police abilities to maintain order during important political procedures and security readiness.

Since members are chosen to advise the President on subjects pertaining to the country, the Council of State elections are an important part of Ghana’s governance.
