Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the national chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has strongly warned government appointees to abstain from corruption, saying that the reset agenda includes not only punishing political opponents found guilty of corruption but also current government appointees who participate in it.

“Even as we are dealing with the excesses of the previous administration, we must send a strong signal to our own party functionaries and our own appointees that whatever will be happening to the appointees of the previous government will very soon be happening to our own appointees who engage in the same misconduct.”

He clarified that “Ghanaians will take us seriously that we are indeed resetting a nation to the path of truth, accountability, and on to the path progress” when such forceful, indiscriminate actions are implemented.

He claimed that the current inquiries, detentions, and prosecutions of former public servants are not motivated by retaliation but rather by making individuals responsible for their own actions.

He asked communicators for the NPP and NDC to realize that combating corruption is a component of the reset agenda.

“It is about resetting the country; it is about holding people accountable for a mandate that the population has given them. It is about holding people to account for the looting of our state resources, and we shouldn’t allow political parties to be the refuge for Criminals. A criminal remains a criminal whether he is NDC or NPP”.

Speaking at the 46th anniversary of the June 4 uprising in the Eastern Region at Odumase Krobo, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah made these statements.

A pivotal moment in Ghana’s political history, the June 4 rebellion was spearheaded by NDC founder and then Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings. It was sparked by demands for justice, accountability, and probity against the ruling class’s corruption and poor management.

The theme for this year’s event was “Resetting Ghana; Reflecting on June 4.” It brought together political leaders, children of former President Jerry John Rawlings, and important members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah revealed that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NDC has proposed designating June as NDC month in order to commemorate the organization’s anniversaries and other significant events.

Additionally, he stated that a plan to rename NDC Headquarters in honor of the late founder Jerry John Rawlings has been put forth.
