The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has revealed that assets worth GHS1.5 billion have been seized as inquiries proceed under Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).

He stated that although the initiative has advanced considerably, certain funds cannot be completely recovered until those involved in the investigations are effectively prosecuted and found guilty.

He also rejected assertions that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has obtained GHS600 million specifically via ORAL.

He specified that the amount mentioned pertains to the recovery of misappropriated public funds in general and not funds specifically obtained through the ORAL initiative.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu delivered the comments during parliamentary sessions on the initial day of debates regarding the State of the Nation Address.

The session featured intense debates between the Minority and Majority factions of the House.

Members of the Minority condemned the government’s management of the cocoa sector crisis and expressed worries regarding recent security issues nationwide.

Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, John Ntim Fordjour, questioned the government’s response to emerging security threats, while Akwasi Gyamfi Onyina-Acheampong, MP for Kwabre East on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), also expressed concerns over economic management and sectoral performance.

On the Majority side, Chairman of the Finance Committee, Isaac Adongo, defended the government’s fiscal measures, insisting that reforms underway would stabilise the economy and restore confidence.

Kofi Benteh Afful, NDC MP for Sefwi Wiawso, praised the administration’s efforts to tackle corruption and strengthen public accountability mechanisms.

In the upcoming days, it is anticipated that the State of the Nation Address debate will continue as lawmakers continue to analyze government policy directions and performance in important areas.
