Assin Fosu Polyclinic nurses embark on strike over shortage of doctors

Nurses and other medical personnel went on a sit-down strike, leaving patients at the Assin Fosu Polyclinic in the Assin Fosu Municipality in the Central Region stranded.

A doctor shortage at the polyclinic is the cause of the strike.

Over the last seven years, the polyclinic has only had one doctor, according to some nurses interviewed by media. As a result, the quality of healthcare delivery has been negatively impacted because the nurses are responsible for all patient care when the doctor is not there.

Nurses have pledged to persist in their walkout until their demands are fulfilled, since they are likewise worried about their working conditions.

In the meanwhile, a few of the stranded patients talked about their experience in an interview, claiming that neither nurses nor other medical professionals were prepared to care for them.

Some of the patients had to make long journeys to other Districts in order to receive medical care.

The sufferers are pleading with the government to take all reasonable steps to resolve the health personnel’ concerns.
