In a speech to the residents of Assin North, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo asked them to think about the possible repercussions of choosing a candidate who might go to jail in the future.

He spoke in favor of the NPP candidate in the impending Assin North by-election, which is set for June 27.

President Akufo-Addo stressed the need of making informed choices when casting votes in front of a sizable crowd of Assin North inhabitants.

He voiced worry about candidates who had past or present legal troubles that raised questions about their reliability and adherence to the law.

The President emphasized the importance of voting responsibly, saying, “We should not support or vote for those involved in legal disputes that may ultimately result in imprisonment. We need someone who will honestly help you and act in your best interests.

President Akufo-Addo specifically mentioned James Gyakye-Quayson, the former representative for Assin North who has been dealing with legal issues. These legal difficulties have caused political unrest among the constituency.

President Akufo-Addo denied any meddling with the court proceedings against Mr. Gyakye-Quayson in response to claims that he had a say in them and claimed that the Ghanaian legal system had followed its course naturally.

In the impending by-election, he emphasized the crucial importance of integrity for those seeking political office and urged voters to carefully consider candidates’ backgrounds, credentials, and reputations before casting their ballots.
