The Member of Parliament(MP) for the Eastern Region’s Akim Abuakwa South Constituency, Honourable Samuel Atta Akyea, who is in charge of the Parliamentary Adhoc Committee looking into an alleged anti-IGP audio, has drawn criticism for how he has conducted himself.

Hon. Atta Akyea’s remarks during a Committee meeting held to examine Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, have sparked criticism from the general public.

According to Prof. Freeman Danquah University of Bradford, UK the committee chair appeared to seriously doubt Dr. Dampare’s honesty on September 12, 2023, during the IGP’s appearance before the Committee, despite the latter’s illustrious service.

This has led to requests from a section of Ghanaians for Dr. Dampare’s prospective replacement on the Committee because it has been assumed that this is an attempt to put pressure on Dr. Dampare to substantiate unfounded charges.

The covert scheme to have Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, removed from his position is clear to any discerning Ghanaian.

After the four people stated in the aforementioned tape, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare became the fifth person to testify before the Committee.

Ghanaians are wondering what caused the Committee to postpone proceedings until October 2, 2023, when it was originally planned to provide its findings and recommendations about the study to the Parliament of Ghana on September 10, 2023.

He consider these statements to be unfavorable and suggestive of potential personal interests on the part of the Committee Chairman in light of Honorable Atta Akyea’s remarks, particularly his query, “do you know the full extent of allegations against you,” and other remarks implying the existence of undisclosed evidence. Given this impression, it is advised that the committee chairman think about withdrawing from the discussion.

The Chairman’s repeated comments frequently imply personal prejudices, and his apparent position as a defense attorney for the wronged police officers furthers this worry. We kindly request that Honorable Atta Akyea refrain from participating in the proceedings as a result of his conduct, which raise serious concerns about his impartiality.
