After more than two years of court proceedings concerning Oliver Barker-Vormawor’s purported plot to organize a coup d’état, the state has dropped the treason felony accusations against him.
Initially, Barker-Vormawor was charged because of remarks he made following the E-levy’s passage.
But now, Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has made the decision to end the lawsuit.
Dr. Ayine’s decision is part of a larger strategy; she has also abandoned other high-profile criminal cases.
These include the prosecution of businessmen Seidu Agongo and physician Stephen Opuni, as well as accusations against Dr. Johnson Asiama, the former governor of the Bank of Ghana.
Dr. Ayine gave a press conference at which he discussed the reasoning behind these rulings and alluded to a reexamination of Barker-Vormawor’s treason criminal charges.
He formally confirmed the charges were dropped on Monday.
