Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, has declared that if elected president, he will work with the clergy to get funding from the private sector to finish the national cathedral.

On June 4, 2024, in Accra, during his discussion with the clergy, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia made the pledge.

“The question on the National Cathedral is a very important one. The National Cathedral, I have contributed to it personally and I believe it is a very important thing for Ghana.

“But I think as it stands now, the church must come together with the government and let us sit down and talk about the way forward for the National Cathedral.”

Bawumia added, “The church should come together and let’s know the best way forward, how we can even get private resources to help us complete the Cathedral.”

“The church should come together to help us know how we can even get private resources to help us complete the cathedral,” he suggested.

When the proposed National Cathedral in Accra is finished and operating, it is expected to generate more than US$95 million in revenue in its first five years of operation.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo envisioned the Ghana National Cathedral as a physical representation of harmony, unity, and spirituality. It will serve as the country’s ceremonial landmark and “mother church,” welcoming people of all denominations to come together, worship, and celebrate in harmony with one another.

Ten streams of income will be generated by the project, which is now being referred to as a complex consisting of three projects: the Biblical Gardens of Africa, the Bible Museum of Africa, and the National Cathedral of Ghana.

The biblical gardens, the museum, and cathedral entry are among the cash sources.

The remaining options include membership, online goods, online merchandise, event catering, restaurant, café, gift store, meeting room rental, and special events.
