Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has offered GH¢200,000 and 1,000 bags of cement to traders impacted by the recent terrible fire at Adum in Kumasi to help them restore their businesses.

The fire, which started on Friday, March 21, destroyed goods valued at millions of Ghanaian cedis as it tore through a number of stores and kiosks in the busy business center.

On Tuesday (March 25), Bawumia visited the spot and offered his condolences to the impacted traders. He also urged Ghanaians and private companies to help them recover.

“I am donating GH¢200,000 and 1,000 bags to the victims, and I urge private individuals to also support the traders in getting their livelihoods back,” he said.

The New Patriotic Party’s 2024 presidential candidate was accompanied by well-known party executives, former ministers, and current and former members of parliament.

He emphasized how urgent it is to provide aid and urged the authorities to put up their best effort in order to stop future occurrences of this kind.

“This support is just a small way to help you get back on your feet. I will continue to stand with you in any way I can,” he added.

Numerous traders conveyed their appreciation for the kind gift, stating that the cement and cash assistance will be crucial in enabling them to begin anew.

One impacted store owner said, “This gesture gives us hope, even though we have lost everything.”

The community is optimistic that long-term measures will be put in place to protect their livelihoods from future disasters while investigations continue to identify the source of the fire.
