Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has promised Ghanaians that corruption and bribery will not be accepted by his incoming administration.

He praised the NPP’s initiatives to combat the threat through digitization.

At a stakeholders’ meeting in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency, Dr. Bawumia stated that the NPP government has made great strides in combating corruption and that the party is dedicated to using digitalization to end the practice.

“Digitalization has been incredibly beneficial, especially for the poor, as it removes the need to meet someone in person who might demand a bribe. Now, people can conduct their business directly from their phones without anyone asking for a bribe.”

He claims that 29,000 ghost names have already been removed from the SSNIT payroll, saving GH₵400 million for insurance.

He claims that the Ghana Card’s introduction made this feasible.

“I discovered that the lack of fingerprints was a common problem among ghost workers. I therefore suggested using the Ghana Card to identify these ghost workers when I spoke with Dr. Ofori, the Director General of SSNIT.

“He agreed, and once we implemented the system, we identified 29,000 ghost workers on the payroll. We can now confidently say that the ghost worker issue in the public sector payroll is resolved, thanks to the Ghana Card.”

He went on to say that if elected president on December 7, he plans to eradicate corruption.
