The National Communications Officer of the major opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, has blasted the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for using sole-sourcing to give lucrative contracts to the brother of Vice President and flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Mr. Gyamfi emphasized that the NPP is purportedly using the same process to give contracts to Resource Access Limited, the brother’s business of Dr. Bawumia, even though the NPP had promised to minimize sole-sourcing contracts.

Not only were these contracts given without a competitive bidding process, he claimed, but they were also wildly expensive.

Mr Gyamfi claims that several of the contracts Abraham Bawumia’s Resource Access Limited was awarded were overvalued by three times the going rate.

He specifically mentioned the GH₵52.2 million contract that was given to Dr. Bawumia’s brother for the refurbishment of the Sunyani airport project, which is in phase two.

On the other hand, GH₵100,000 was spent on the real refurbishment of the Sunyani airport during the government of former President John Dramani Mahama.

Mr. Gyamfi pointed out that despite this significant investment, the Sunyani airport’s facade is still in poor condition.

These disclosures came out of the NDC Communications Directorate’s “Moment of Truth” series, which Mr. Gyamfi spoke at in Accra.

Mr. Gyamfi emphasized the NPP’s hypocrisy by saying, “This is a man in opposition who preached against sole-sourcing only to come to power and become an enabler of sole-sourcing leading to his brother and wife benefiting heavily.”

He came to the conclusion that, out of five inflated contracts issued through sole sourcing, Dr. Bawumia’s brother had received GHS 218 million.
