On March 10, the National Commission for Civic Education in Nkoranza North, Bono East Region, hosted an Independence Day Constitution Game Competition and quiz for basic schools at Busunya SDA Central Church.
Four schools in the Busunya town district came together for the event, which was sponsored by the head office in Accra and organized by the National Commission for Civic Education Nkoranza North in order to raise student civic awareness and education.
Busunya Roman Catholic School Junior High School, Busunya Methodist JHS, Busunya Anglican JHS, and Busunya SDA JHS were the participating schools.
In his remarks during the inauguration, Mr. Richard Duncan, the NCCE director for Nkoranza North in the Bono East Region, underlined the significance of teaching Ghanaians civil duty in basic schools.
According to him, civic education is essential for the development of responsible citizens who can contribute positively to the growth and development of Ghana.
Mr. Richard Duncan laments that recently, patriotism and sacrifice are gradually losing their value in Ghana due to poor advocacy and civic education.
He said this situation has prompted his call to rekindle civic education for the betterment of the country and its citizens.
The Nkoranza North NCCE director commended the National Secretariat for sponsoring the event, citing its significant contribution to the development of responsible citizens in the district.
The Constitution Game Competition tested the pupils’ knowledge of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, civic rights, and responsibilities.
The competition was divided into several rounds, with questions ranging from easy to challenging.
The pupils demonstrated a good understanding of the constitution and civic issues, showcasing their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Following a fiercely contested debate, SDA JHS Busunya prevailed, showcasing remarkable constitutional and civic knowledge and comprehension.
The students received praise for their exceptional achievement, and the school received awards and certificates.
The participants’ enthusiasm for and love of the competition created a vibrant and captivating environment.
Additionally, the occasion fostered solidarity among the participating educational institutions. A lifelong memory was made as the students engaged with one another, exchanged ideas, and gained knowledge from one another.
He remarked in his post-competition remarks that the 68th Independence Day Constitution Game Competition was a huge success, accomplishing its goal of raising students’ civic awareness and knowledge.
