Pensioner bondholders claim they must use their coupons and principal to pay for medical expenses in order to remain alive. As a result, they have advised the government to borrow money from the Treasury market in order to pay them, given that President Nana Akufo-Addo has previously claimed that he is capable of reviving the economy but not without causing casualties.

On Monday, May 8, 2023, the pensioners pickedeted the Ministry of Finance once more to demand payment of their principal and coupons that had reached maturity.

They have vowed to continue picketing until their principals and coupons are paid.

Dr. Adu Anane Antwi, the chairman of the pensioner bondholders forum, said to journalists today at the ministry: “The government can borrow from the treasury bills market to pay us.”

“If you borrow from the treasury bills market, it will raise your debt level, but you are faced with a situation where you have to do that for people who need their money for medication,” He clarified.

The president once declared that while it was impossible to bring the dead back to life, it was possible to revive the economy. We are therefore discussing retirees who require financial assistance for medical care. Borrow money from the market for treasury bills and pay them so they can live because if you don’t and they die, you can’t bring them back.
