The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has canceled its strike, allowing the government till October to resolve any unresolved issues.
The Vice President’s office, headed by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, provided guarantees, according to CETAG President Prince Obeng-Himah, who made the announcement to stop the strike.
According to him, the government has until October to find solutions for every problem raised by CETAG.
By the end of this month, wages for July and August of 2024 must also be paid.
“I am appending my signature to signify the fact that I am committed or the government team is committed to that which we have agreed to in this document,” Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah said.
“On behalf of over 2,000 members of CETAG I also want to assure the media and everyone that is here that CETAG is also committed to what has been put on this paper and therefore I wish to sign,” stated the team leader at the table.
The National Labor Commission (NLC) ordered the government to execute agreed-upon arbitral decisions and service conditions; this inability to do so led to the start of the strike on June 14.
The nationwide strike caused disruptions to academic operations at education institutes by leaving students engulfed for a period of two months.
