Following the government’s instruction to freeze its pay for July, the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has withdrew all of its services.

On July 22, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) directed the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to put a hold on the pay of all CETAG members who are on strike for July 2024, with the exception of the Principals.

In accordance to the instruction from the Minister of Education, CETAG said in a statement on Tuesday, July 23, that it is discontinuing all of its services.

“In an emergency meeting of National Council, July 23, the council members took a unanimous decision to withdraw all our services including attendance to meetings, congregation ceremonies and provision of academic counselling services as well as supervision of students in the halls of residence with immediate effect until further notice,” part of the statement read.

The group stated that it had forwarded the unlawful order to freeze their pay for July to its attorneys, who will take the appropriate measures.

Assuring the striking CETAG members that their issues are being taken seriously, GTEC has asked them to return to the classroom.
