Charity Akortia is 2023 National Best Farmer

The 57-year-old Charity Akortia of the Agona West District in the Central Region won the title of 2023 National Best Farmer at this year’s National Farmers Day celebration, which was held in Tarkwa.

She received GHC $1 million in addition to other rewards for the honor.

Theophilus Ezenrane Ackah, 46, from Jomoro in the Western Region, and Kwaku Yeboah Asiamah, 58, from the Bono East region, were named first and second runners-up, respectively.

During the award ceremony, Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia praised farmers for their role in maintaining the country and recognized them as essential contributors to Ghana’s economy.

He emphasized the need for new approaches in light of changing dynamics and stressed that Farmers Day should act as a reminder to address food security goals.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized that since 2017, the government has been committed to revolutionizing the agriculture industry through programs like Planting for Food and Jobs.

He cited the program’s accomplishments in boosting job creation, improving food security, attaining noteworthy growth rates, and assisting emerging industries.

Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, gave the assurance that the government is putting policies in place to maintain the progress achieved in the agricultural sector.
