Due to galamsey activities by Chinese and retired military personnel at Manse near Bibiani, the Anhwiaso East forest reserve under the Bibiani District Forest Services Division in the Western North region is seriously in danger of being destroyed.
In an interview with Nana Bonya III, Kyeame Panin of the Bibiani Traditional Council acknowledged that despite having firearms and other technology on them, the forest staff has tried their hardest to stop the devastation of the forest.
Recall that last year, the Chief of Manse, Nana Kwame Sobiri, and a few illegal miners, both Chinese and Ghanaian, were apprehended by the Bibiani District Forest Services Division, headed by Mr. Cobbina Baiden, Bibiani District Forest Services Division Manager, and the Accra Rapid Response Team. The damage is still being done.
The Anhwiaso East forest reserve is being destroyed at an alarming rate, so when the media spoke with Nana Bonya III (Kyeame Panin of the Bibiani Traditional Council) and Kwame Saah, a local farmer, they raised concern and asked the government to come to their aid to curb the menace.
In response to a question from the media regarding the work being done by the Bibiani District Forest Services Division, Nana Bonya III praised Mr. Kobbina Baiden’s efforts in his ongoing engagement with Nananom to safeguard the forest reserve, noting that in his short time in office, he has shown remarkable initiative and cooperation and deserves recognition.
