John Dramani Mahama was congratulated by Chinese President Xi Jinping after he was elected president-elect of the 4th Republic of Ghana in the December 2024 elections.
In his message, President Xi Jinping stated that as Ghana was among the first nations in sub-Saharan Africa to establish diplomatic connections with China, he places a high value on the growth of China-Ghana relations.
China and Ghana’s partnership has a long and rich history that has grown stronger over time, Xi Jinping said.
He went on to say that he is prepared to collaborate with the president-elect in order to strengthen Ghana-China political trust and advance a strategic cooperation between the two countries that will benefit both sides more.
Shortly after Ghana became a republic in 1960, diplomatic ties were established between China and Ghana. Since then, Ghana has given the PRC significant diplomatic assistance, and the PRC has returned the favor by giving Ghana tangible aid for its development.
