Christian Atsu’s family has visited President Akufo-Addo at the seat of government to formally notify him of his passing. Atsu was the 2015 AFCON player of the year.
Head of the family Nene Gabriel Kofi Tswasam thanked the President for the assistance his government has provided to the family since the tragic passing of their relative, Atsu, under the leadership of Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif and President of the Ghana Football Association Kurt Okraku, before officially informing the President that Atsu perished during the earthquake in Turkey early this month.
In expressing his condolences to the family, President Akufo-Addo said that Atsu’s passing was a national tragedy and that he was determined to attend the footballer’s burial in person.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports will provide the family with the assistance they need to give him a respectable funeral, President Akufo-Addo continued.
Christian Atsu was found deceased under the rubble at his home in the Turkish province of Hatay after the 7.8 magnitude disaster.
Following that, his corpse was transported to Ghana, where officials, footballers, teammates, fans, and Ghanaians in general expressed their sympathies to the grieving family.
On March 4, 2023, a one-week tribute observance will be held at Adjiringanor in Accra in honor of the dead football player.
