A nationwide strike has been declared by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) to begin on November 7 in response to the government’s tardiness in establishing a new pay scale.
Assuming the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) would miss the deadline of October 31 to complete the new compensation structure, CLOGSAG had earlier declared in a statement dated October 22 that it would go on strike.
This decision was probably prompted by the government’s refusal to carry out the suggested pay plan, even though an MOU had been signed a year and a half earlier.
However, CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, stated in a statement released on Monday, November 4, that he now views the January 1, 2025 implementation date as impractical.
He added that, due to poor faith, CLOGSAG will no longer communicate with Benjamin Arthur, the CEO of FWSC.
“As a result of the long delay in the completion of a New Salary Structure and other Conditions of Service for the Staff of Civil Service and Local Government Service, the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has no than to ask our members to stay at home on Thursday, November 7th.”
