The administration of Nana Akufo-Addo has come under fire from the country’s former president John Dramani Mahama for escalating destitution.
Former President Mahama stated during the start of his 2024 presidential campaign at the University of Health and Applied Sciences in Ho in the Volta Region that the “cluelessness and the harrowing dismantling of our progress by the NPP government has damaged and killed many bright dreams of the country.”
He claimed that the present administration was not only illiterate but also reckless, made poor decisions, and then tried to avoid taking accountability for the damage it had caused.
“This government has been clueless and, in many ways, callous. We are saddled with debt, and we have been downgraded by every rating agency and inflation has gone off the roof, sending people into abject poverty,” at the Cedi Hall, Mr. Mahama addressed the applauding audience.
He also criticized the government’s internal restructuring initiative, which he claimed could destroy the riches that the middle class had built up.
“Our middle class also risks being wiped out due to a reckless debt restructuring programme. Who would have thought Ghana would have come to a juncture like this when our economy has been destroyed by the incompetent Akufo-Addo and his vice Bawumia?”
Mr. Mahama went on to criticize the government’s “arrogance,” which he said had contributed to the nation’s fiscal disaster by keeping it too proud to accept accountability for its mistakes.
