Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen has expressed disappointment with the Constitutional Review Committee’s report, stating that there’s been “much ado about nothing”.

The committee, chaired by Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh, submitted its final report to President John Dramani Mahama on December 22, 2025, proposing reforms to Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.

The report includes key recommendations such as extending presidential and parliamentary terms from four to five years, lifting restrictions on dual citizens contesting parliamentary elections, and establishing an independent anti-corruption commission.

However, Nana Obiri Boahen argues that the proposals don’t go far enough in redistributing power and addressing governance inefficiencies.

“Out of the sixteen regions, they sought opinions from ten leaving out the newly created regions including the Savannah Region, the home Region of the President. And if you ask me, their work is much a do buy nothing”, the lawyer claimed on Wontumi TV.

Nana Obiri Boahen’s comments come amid ongoing discussions on the report’s implications for Ghana’s governance framework.

The report aims to transform Ghana from an “electoral democracy” to a “developmental democracy”, but some argue that it falls short in ensuring accountability and continuity in development plans.
