Retired Commissioner of Police (COP) Nathan Kofi Boakye has joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign in an attempt to topple the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in power.

Kofi Boakye participated in the NDC 24-hour Economy Sensitization Walk on Wednesday in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, along with former president John Dramani Mahama and NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

Boakye is a rising candidate for the NDC presidential ticket, John Mahama, and there is growing speculation that he will be chosen as his running mate in the upcoming November 2024 polls.

Sources within the NDC claim that talks and selection processes are now underway, and there is growing confidence that Mahama will surprise party members and the nation at large by selecting Kofi Boakye.

It’s no secret that Boakye and Mahama are close friends, and more rumors have been stoked by his ties to the Ashanti Region, where he maintains a close relationship with the Manyhia Palace. According to some sources, if Boakye is selected as Mahama’s running mate in 2024, he will have a better chance of winning the support of Manhyia Palace, which has a lot of power.

However, Boakye will face tough opposition from other candidates seeking Mahama’s running mate slot.

The front-runners are former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and Mahama’s running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.
