The appointment of COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah as the Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has been revoked by President John Dramani Mahama.
COP Addo-Danquah has been told to turn over her responsibilities and go back to the Ghana Police Headquarters for reassignment, according to insiders at the presidency.
The decision coincides with government efforts to reorganize EOCO, an organization charged with looking into and prosecuting corruption and economic crimes.
It is thought that President Mahama made this move in an effort to revitalize the agency and allay public worries about its recent performance, especially in high-profile financial crime cases.
After a lengthy career in the Ghana Police Service, COP Addo-Danquah brought a plethora of expertise to her role as EOCO boss in January 2022.
Her time at EOCO, however, was criticized by several who questioned how the organization handled significant investigations.
This decision is a component of a larger strategy to fortify important law enforcement organizations and rebuild public confidence in anti-corruption initiatives.
