Council of State member E.T. Mensah dead

E.T. Mensah, a member of the Council of State and a former representative for Ningo-Prampram, passed away at the age of 77.

He apparently passed away in South Africa on Sunday night following a protracted battle with illness.

Enoch Teye Mensah, who was born on May 17, 1946, served as the Rawlings administration’s minister of youth and sports and served in parliament for 20 years, from January 1997 to January 2017.

He had seven kids and was married.

He was the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s (AMA) Chief Executive during the PNDC administration.

He entered Parliament on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) platform on January 7, 1997, representing the residents of Ningo-Prampram. He held the seat until January 6, 2017.

He also held the position of Minister for Youth and Sports for two years in the administration of former President J.J. Rawlings.

President John Evans Atta Mills nominated him Minister for Employment and Social Welfare in January 2010 following a cabinet reshuffle.

E.T. Mensah was chosen to represent the Greater Accra Region on the Council of State on February 12, 2021.
