As Ghanaians get ready to cast their ballots in the general elections scheduled for December 7, 2024, Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Adukwei Mensa has urged electoral officials to maintain professionalism and integrity.
Mrs. Mensa restated the commission’s unbiased mandate at her last press conference prior to election day, highlighting that its main goal is to guarantee a legitimate electoral process that accurately represents the people’s will.
“Our collective goal is not to make anybody a President or Member of Parliament but to conduct a free and fair election,” she declared firmly.
In carrying out their responsibilities, election officials should uphold the EC’s fundamental principles of transparency, fairness, and honesty, Mrs. Mensa stressed.
“Count the votes accurately and fill out the forms professionally. We urge you to do it with integrity and truth and let God guide you,” she advised, highlighting the importance of precision and honesty in the electoral process.
Expressing her confidence in the EC’s team, she noted: “We believe in you and we trust in you to conduct free, fair and transparent elections that will reflect the will of the people.”
Stressing the importance of preserving the election’s integrity and defending each voter’s right to be heard, she also warned officials to make sure that legitimate votes are not mistakenly disregarded.
