Jordan Ayew, a striker for the Black Stars, has urged Ghanaians to wait patiently and refrain from criticizing the national team until the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is over.
Ayew’s appeal follows a spike in criticism after Ghana’s loss to Cape Verde in their opening game.
Speaking to the media prior to the pivotal second group matchup with Egypt, Ayew addressed those who questioned the mounting worries following just one match.
The 32-year-old questioned the validity of the criticism, pointing out that the team hasn’t yet been declared eliminated.
“Are we disqualified yet? We are not. When we are disqualified, then you can speak,” During the press conference, Ayew stated.
Ghana will play Egypt on Thursday night in a match that they absolutely must win in order to increase their chances of moving on to the next round of the AFCON 2023 competition.
The Black Stars want to respond to the intense scrutiny they have endured with a strong performance against Egypt, and Ayew’s call for temperate criticism reflects that.
