Daniel Okyem Aboagye, a former representative for the Ashanti Region’s Bantama seat, has died at the age of 49.
On Saturday, September 23, Okyem Aboagye passed away at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi following a brief illness.
He was a part of the finance committee in the legislature. The businessman served one term in the House before taking on the role of economics spokesperson for the New Patriotic Party.
In the 2020 NPP parliamentary primaries, he was defeated by Francis Asenso-Boakye, the then deputy chief of staff, for the NPP nomination to run for the Bantama seat.
In the Ashanti Region, Okyem Aboagye owned numerous companies, including the well-known 2M Transport Services.
Daniel Okyem Aboagye, who was born in Atwima Boko in the Ashanti Region, attended the University of Ghana in Legon and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business management.
After moving there for his graduate studies, he graduated from Troy University in Alabama with an MBA in 2002 with concentrations in accounting and management of information systems.
He received official certification as a public accountant in 2003, also in the US.
In 1998, Okyem Aboagye began working for Sinapi Aba Trust as a branch manager.
He worked as a project manager for Opportunity International, a US-based nonprofit that offers small business loans and training in insurance and savings to more than 14 million people in developing countries, between 2003 and 2006.
He served as both the CEO of MGI Microfinance and the financial controller for Globe Union in the US from 2008 to 2012.
