The Ghana Police Service has been tasked by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with ensuring that the violence-free presidential primary polls that are set for November 4, 2023, take place.

The police should take all necessary action against anyone found guilty of any crime, the ruling party urged.

When the two parties gathered to discuss the election arrangements for the 2018 elections, the NPP Presidential Election Committee informed the Ghana Police Service.

At a meeting on Thursday, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, the NPP’s Chairman of the Presidential Election Committee, gave the police advice on how to handle anyone who might commit misconduct during the elections.

He declared that the party will assist the security agency in apprehending and prosecuting the offenders.
“We are authorising you to take absolute control of all the processes that you regulate during normal elections in this republic.

We have made a number of guidelines which are a matter of common consent and we have worked out the dynamics in such a way that we are working together and we are saying this to assure you that the regulations that the candidates have all signed are going to be the blueprint of the process, and anyone who disregards this should be dealt with and we want to establish that this country is a lawful nation,” he said.

In the meantime, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, issued a request for collaboration to guarantee the conscientious performance of their responsibilities.

“We would like to reassure you that on November 4, we will provide you with an excessive level of security. It will be fantastic and amazing, and all we require from you is your cooperation to make sure the police carry out their duties.”

However, Samuel Tetteh, the Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission in charge of Operations, also stated that plans are in place to ensure a seamless election procedure.
