CEOs and deputy CEOs in government ministries and agencies, among other recently appointed individuals, have been reminded by President John Dramani Mahama of their legal need to disclose their assets.
Speaking to appointees at a recent ceremony, he underlined the significance of accountability and openness in government and underscored that all people nominated to leadership positions, including those in public service posts, are required to declare their assets.
“Let me also remind you that the requirement to declare assets also includes all those who have been appointed as CEOs and Deputy CEOs in government departments and agencies,” President Mahama stated.
“Some of those people think they are not included, but the amended law includes all of them. So, for those rushing for positions, you are covered by the assets declaration rule.”
The Chief of Staff was instructed by President Mahama to write to all the appropriate parties, requesting that they swiftly declare their assets to the office of the Auditor General. This action reaffirms the government’s dedication to transparency and integrity in public office.
“I have asked the Chief of Staff to write to all such persons to declare their assets promptly with the Auditor General’s office,” President Mahama confirmed.
President Mahama also emphasized in his speech the sacrifices that government officials must make in order to ensure the country’s prosperity in the future. He emphasized the necessity for selflessness in their duties and advised his staff not to put short-term pleasures ahead of the nation’s long-term objectives.
“The sacrifices I ask you to make are to secure a prosperous future for posterity,” he said. “You must never sacrifice a secure future for the pleasures of this fleeting moment.”
President Mahama also used the occasion to remind his appointees of how big the challenge of rebuilding and resetting Ghana is. He underlined that, in spite of the difficulties, exercising good leadership is the answer rather than building a big government.
