Deportees from Kuwait will be quarantined for investigations

Some 245 Ghanaian deportees from Kuwait expected to arrive in the country soon, will be kept under state vigilance until investigations surrounding their illegal stay is completed, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has stated.

The Information Minister in a press briefing held on Friday May 22, 2020, says each deportee will be handled based on the outcome of the said investigations and in accordance with Ghana’s laws.

“The deportees will be received and handled in line with the immigration regulations for all deportees. They will be under the custody of the state for preliminary investigations on the circumstances surrounding their illegal stay in Kuwait. It is based on these investigations that a case by case determination will be made on the status and further handling of each deportee,” he stated.

He also established that the national security secretariat has been instructed to work in collaboration with the immigration and the military to ensure that the mandatory quarantine is adequately enforced when they are brought down.

“The national security secretariat has been asked to work in collaboration with the immigration and the military to take responsibility that the mandatory quarantine is adequately enforced,” he added.

Meanwhile, the government of Kuwait has informed Ghana of an intention to bring back some Ghanaians who are illegally staying in their country on Saturday May 23, 2020.
